Learn a little bit about Finn...

IS 'FINN PHOENIX' YOUR REAL NAME?

Yes!  'Finn' is my real first name and 'Phoenix' is my real middle name.  Before I was born my parents learned that I had some anatomical problems and would need surgery soon after I entered the word.  They gave me the name 'Phoenix', in part, because a phoenix is a creature that can overcome obstacles and repair itself.  I had my surgeries as a baby and am healthy now.

HOW OLD ARE YOU?

I'm 12!  My birthday is in July.  🎂

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING MUSIC?

I started playing ukulele when I was 8 years old after seeing an older kid play one in my school’s talent show.  I was playing uke for about eight months when my uke teacher suggested I was at a level that made it possible for me to start learning to play guitar!  I've been playing ever since! (about three years)

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT PLAYING MUSIC?

I love making other people feel happy with the music I put out there.  I also love playing music for (and with) my family.  We have a bonfire in our backyard every once and a while and I like playing songs like “This Land Is Your Land” around the fire!

WHO ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

My musical influences include James Taylor, The Okee Dokee Brothers, and many rock artists from the 60s, 70s, and 80s!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE?

I practice for about an hour each day.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE?

By far my most memorable performance was at the Greensboro Pride Festival in September 2019.  When I was taking a break between sets two angry protesters started protesting near me.  They were shouting mean things against the festival.  I got scared because I thought they would hurt someone.  My parents didn't think so.  They convinced me to get back up there and keep on playing.  So I got up and played 'Let It Be'.  The protesters walked away!  I  wrote a song about that experience called Playing at that Pride Festival.
